Squirmy Wormy
Materials
- Hook — Curved scud hook size 10-14 (TMC 2487) or jig hook size 12-14
- Bead — Tungsten slotted 2.8-3.5mm gold/copper/pink
- Thread — UTC 140 denier or heavier (light thread cuts the silicone)
- Body — Spirit River Squirmito or Veniard squirmy material (pink, red, wine, or purple)
- Optional collar — UV pink or red Ice Dub
Tying steps
-
Slot bead onto hook and start UTC 140 thread immediately behind bead
-
Cut single strand of squirmy material 2-2.5 inches long without pre-stretching
-
Lay strand midpoint under bead and use loose loop wraps - two soft turns then one slightly tighter to lock
-
Adjust strand so equal lengths extend forward of eye and back past bend
-
Optional - dub UV Ice Dub collar in single tight wrap at tie-in
-
Whip finish three turns at bead and apply tiny dot of UV resin or head cement
Notes
Controversial pattern — banned in Yellowstone NP and some TU chapter waters. Heavy-thread tie-in is non-obvious; loose wraps prevent silicone severing.
