Materials
- Hook — Curved/streamer hook, size 4-12 (Daiichi 1730 or TMC 5263)
- Bead — Tungsten 3.8-4.5mm gold or copper (optional)
- Lead wire — .025-.030" — 12-15 wraps
- Thread — Danville Flat Waxed 210 or UTC 140 — color matched to body
- Body — Variegated chenille — medium for size 4-8, small for 10-12
- Legs — Hareline Round Rubber Legs (medium) or Sili Legs
Tying steps

Slot the bead onto the hook with the slot facing forward.

Wrap 12-15 turns of .025-.030" lead wire around the shank, push forward against the bead.

Start thread, build a thread base across the lead.

Tie in two pairs of rubber legs at the hook bend (one pair each side), then the chenille.

Wrap chenille forward; tie in a second pair of legs at one-third, third pair at two-thirds.

Tie off chenille behind bead, whip-finish, trim legs to body length.
Notes
Most-fished stonefly nymph in the country. Color combinations that produce: Black/Coffee (all-purpose Western), Brown/Black (stained water and Eastern), Coffee/Black (natural golden stone). Also fishes for smallmouth bass on tailwaters in olive variant.
